The San Francisco Resource Booklet for the Safe Communities Re-entry Council contains descriptions and contact information for organizations that provide re-entry support. Their mission is to promote the safe and successful return of formerly incarcerated individuals. A nationwide alphabetical listing of about 400 non-profit agencies serving the criminal justice system may be obtained from Guidestar. Enter words "criminal justice" in the site search. Ron Mendlin, a member of NCSL's staff, has written a series of workbooks for JIST Works publishers, as part of their Putting the Bars Behind You series. Ron's books will help you find a job and adjust to life after prison. The Center on Juvenile and Criminal Justice provides alternative sentencing program proposals is an information source for alternatives to incarceration. The National Drug Court Institute is working to meaningfully address the major cause of crime through the judicial system. The Justice Information Center provides a comprehensive data source for criminal justice issues. The Prison Law Page offers a comprehensive guide to legal, jail, and prison issues in California. The Human Kindness Foundation, founded by Bo Lozoff, operates the Prison Ashram Project. One of Bo's books, We're All Doing Time, is a classic for finding peace in prison or outside in the "real" world. Other agencies on the East Coast, which help ex-offenders include The Fortune Society and STRIVE which are located in New York. NCSL is a member of the San Francisco Children of Incarcerated Parents Partnership. SFCIPP has produced the following "Bill of Rights" for the children of incarcerated parents.
